| Who We Are: Jefferson Choruses

Thomas Jefferson
The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology was established in 1985 as the Governor’s Regional School for Science & Technology. The school serves students from Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington, Fauquier, and Prince William counties. The school offers a demanding college preparatory curriculum with an emphasis on topics in science and technology.
History
Choirs at Thomas Jefferson
actively perform throughout Fairfax County, and have participated in
national and international festivals. In 1994 the Thomas Jefferson
Choral program celebrated the 50th anniversary of the World War II
liberation of France in Caen, sister city to Alexandria. The chorus has performed at Carnegie Hall
twice: once under the direction of John Rutter, another as an
individual performance. In addition, the chours has performed at
competitions in locations such as Disney World.
Objective
The
choral curriculum at TJHSST emphasizes vocal training, music literacy,
and exposure to a variety of musical forms and styles including
classical, folk, jazz, and popular music. It also focuses on actively
performing for the commmuntiy through Caberet, Musicals, Festival, and
Spring Show. Another undertone is sevice to the musical and non-musical
community through concerts such as Honor Flight.
Extracurricular
In addition to curricular
choir, the choral department supports three student run a cappella
groups: Manchoir, Madrigals, and Sirens. It also supports auditioning
for select choirs such as District Chorus, All-State Chorus, and Senior
Honor Choir.
